Re: The Small Faces.
Saw the West end show "all or nothing" last year. The story of the Small Faces with live performances of all the songs. Similar style to Jersey Boys.

Highly recommend it if it is still playing.

Here comes the nice is some tune.

I’ve also discovered early Moody Blues, listen to ride my see saw and I’m just a singer in a rock and roll band.

samson, he wrote debris as a tribute to his dad

Re: The Small Faces.
Ronnie Lane was a very under-rated bass player and an even more under-rated songwriter. Debris is such a great song. The Poacher is genius. Try to listen to these songs, if you get a chance.

Here Comes The Nice is less complex.

It's just about their speed dealer. Got it on Radio 1, though! Hahah.

Blimey. I didn't realise songs were so complicated.

What's the OTHER THING that Here Come the Nice is about then?

Re: The Small Faces.
Ronnie Lane wrote the "bridge of sighs / dreaming spires" lines after reading a booklet about the wonders of Oxford. It's "poetic"

Marriott said about the nickname/ title : "It's Valentine's Park in Ilford. We used to go there and get stung by wasps. It's what we used to call it". This was reiterated by actor Tony Robinson, a childhood friend of Marriott's . WIKIPEDIA.

It's a co-write. It's not about ONE THING. Songs rarely are. Unless they're very simple. And Small Faces were NOT simple.

Re: The Small Faces.
I'm throwing my tuppence worth in on the Itchycoo Park discussion.

No one has listened to the words properly. The answer is in the first 4 lines.

Over Bridge of Sighs
To rest my eyes in shades of green
Under Dreaming Spires
To Itchycoo Park, that's where I've been

Bridge of Sighs is in Oxford
Oxford is known as the City of Dreaming Spires

Not everything sung by a cockney boy has to be about the east end.

Itchycoo Park is in Oxford

Re: The Small Faces.
@cholo

Old Small Faces documentary is still on YouTube. If you have an hour.

It's not the full picture, but as good a tribute as you'll see. They all feature. Mac, bless his soul, and Kenney' say the most. Marriott and Ronnie Lane had by this time passed away.

( Meanwhile, another billion books / films about the fucking Beatles. Yawn!!)

Anyway: I'd recommend you take THiS hour.

Re: The Small Faces.
My mum and dad from Stepney and Bethnal, now long gone, said that itchycoo park was a reference to a number of small parks round there frequented by down and outs with flea infestations. But I imagine many urban myths are attached to this placename, as with many other places.

Yes gavros.
After the bengali bloke that got murdered there.

You can still see the layout of the church on the ground if you look closely enough.

Round the corner from Tayyabs Indian.
